We belong to the Hamburg Oratorio Choir and regularly perform great works of choral music with the Hamburg Symphonic Orchestra in the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. We are about 50 female and male singers, divided into 8 voices. Every year we perform a big winter concert and a smaller concert in summer. On occasion we also give other concerts, as well.
We currently rehearse at the Gewerbeschule Museumstraße 19, 22765 Hamburg
every Tuesday from 7.30 to 9.30 pm
(S-Bahn Altona)
Active membership costs 15.00 € monthly and passive members as well as students pay 6.00 € monthly. New members are always welcome! Choir experience and the ability to read music is appreciated. A short audition with our conductor will be the deciding factor for a membership.

History: Founded in 1848 as “Liedertafel Lassallea”, a choir for workers, it is the oldest out of the three choirs. The choir was named after Ferdinand Lassalle, who was the founder of the “Allgemeiner Deutscher Arbeiterverein”, the first social party in Germany. From 1848 until 1950 the choir underwent several name changes, which became clear in the festschrift during the 125th anniversary in 1998. Only in 1921/22 the up to then all male choir became a mixed choir by joining up with the female choir “Unter Uns”. In 1950 the composer, conductor and choir master Hellmut Wormsbächer took over the lead of the choir, which at that point was carrying the name “Volks-Chor Altona”. At the same time he also took over the choir “Volks-Chor Barmbeck” (today the “Hamburger Oratorienchor Barmbek”). Before that, in 1947, he had already taken over the lead of the “Volks-Chor Bergedorf” (today the “Brahms-Chor Bergedorf”). Since then the three choirs have sung together und have given concerts regularly, and since 1998 under Thekla Jonathal. The choir alliance has been called HAMBURGER ORATORIENCHOR, Hamburg Oratorio Choir, since 1968.
