History: The Brahms-Chor Bergedorf was founded in 1891 as an only male choir called "Chorvereinigung Bergedorf-Sande". Already early on the choir was a member of the "Allgemeiner Deutscher Sängerbund e.V. (DAS)", an umbrella association of amateur choirs. It was to go through several name changes, different choirmasters and join other choirs until Hellmut Wormsbächer took over in 1947 and then Thekla Jonathal in 1998. Since 1968 the choir has had its current name. In the 1980s the choir went on two trips: Venlo, Netherlands and Lausanne, Switzerland. The Brahms-Chor Bergedorf has not only kept its independence as a society, but also musically speaking as it also gives little concerts in addition to the concerts by the Hamburg Oratorio Choir.
